Though independent, the newspaper has been, since 1971, owned by a group of Jewish leaders involved with Canadian Jewish Congress. Editorially it is independent of CJC and/or any other Jewish organization.
Editorially, the newspaper is pro-Zionist but is otherwise non-partisan in regards to Israeli or Canadian political parties. The CJN has a circulation of 35,000, making it the second most widely read Jewish newspaper in the country, second to the Jewish Tribune. It is published in Montreal and Toronto and sold in Jewish communities across Canada. The CJN’s main competition include both the Jewish Tribune and Shalom Life.

Ottawa XPress Newspaper Canada, or rendered as (x)press on its cover, was an alternative weekly newspaper in Ottawa, Ontario.
The paper was launched in April 1993 by Jim Creskey, who also founded The Hill Times. In March 2001, the paper was sold to Voir’s president and founder, Pierre Paquet. Xpress was the fifth paper to join the group, along with Montreal’s Hour and the French-language cultural weeklies Voir MontrĂ©al, Voir Quebec, and Voir Gatineau, and was therefore part of the largest alternative newsweekly group in Canada. Its size changed from a 13.5-inch to a 15-inch tabloid in 2001.
As of January 2010, Cormac Rea was editor-in-chief and Melissa Proulx was managing editor. Proulx, previously Voir Gatineau’s editor, was initially appointed interim editor in late November 2007

Xtra! West was founded in July 1993. It has become Vancouver’s largest and most widely read publication targeting Vancouver’s gay and lesbian community. The publication has a current circulation of 30,000 copies and reaches 54,000 readers.
The publication’s offices are located in the Davie Village neighbourhood, Vancouver’s gay village.
The managing editor since 2005 is Robin Perelle. Gareth Kirkby was the managing editor from 1996 to 2005. In 2008, Brandon Matheson became publisher, succeeding Ken Hickling who was publisher from 1999.

With an assessed readership of 70,000 upon a distributed circulation of 30,000, the paper is one of the most widely circulated and well-respected alternative newspapers in Canada.
The paper originated in December 1995 as the city’s first alternative weekly publication.[1] As of 2007, it is the only freely distributed weekly newspaper of its type in the city, having outlasted a number of competitors including a short-lived Calgary edition of The Georgia Straight which had originally been called VOX, the long-running Calgary Mirror (which folded in 2001), and the Mirror’s successor, FYI Calgary In-Print, which ran for only five months in 2001.
